Did you Enjoy our XMAS Party

MRA were delighted to welcome the incredible Brixton Chamber Orchestra to our community hall for our Christmas party in December. Were you there? If you were, you’ll recall that the food was delicious and plentiful (including the ice-cream donated by -12 degrees), and the party atmosphere uplifting for all who came. If you weren’t there, you missed out, not least because of the company and live music, and one young man from Moorlands who was brave enough to get up and rap with BCO! We’ll be doing it again!

Smartphone Photo Contest

As you will see from the beautiful photographs above and on the front page of this newsletter, the MRA / Dexter’s / Big Kid Foundation smartphone photography competition produced some amazing results, despite most of the posters advertising it being mysteriously taken down. The young people who joined in worked well together to make some really good progress towards improving their skills and knowledge. The winner will soon be announced, and we will post it in the next issue of Moorlands Residents News. All the participants enjoyed the workshops and are very keen for this project to become a regular activity!

Keeping the Lights on

MRA members have been continuing to work with MTVH to ensure that any broken lights are fixed as quickly as possible. MTVH has now added lighting in the walkway at the entrance from Corry Drive into Broughton Drive. MRA have also asked that the walkway from Corry Drive to Eaton Drive be addressed.

The Pantry Arrives at Moorlands

The Pantry (formerly Southwyk Pantry) finally arrives in our revamped community centre from the 5th May. Anyone living on Moorlands is eligible to go along to collect fresh fruit and vegetables and other healthy food options. The service saves food going to waste from supermarkets and other suppliers, and offers a much more diverse range than food banks. The aim is to also create community solidarity. Opening hours are Thursdays 10:00-16:00. You can drop in, contact Carla Thomas on 07833994445, or email southwyk.pantry@gmail.com for more information.
